Weddings at St Martins

We are so pleased that you are interested in marrying in St Martin's. It is always a great privilege for us to be involved with weddings. Please be assured that we are here to help in any way we can, not only before, but after you are married as well

Here you will find people who care deeply that your great day will be the beginning of a long and happy marriage. The priest, who will be marrying you, and officials at the church, will want to make sure that you understand the meaning of your wedding, so that you carry away with you a sense of peace and blessing.

Baptism(Christening) is the Sacrament of Initiation of a Child into the membership of the Church, the Body of Christ and the beginning of the child's journey of faith when parents commit to help and encourage their children grow in faith within the local Christian community.

Please chat with the St Martins Clergy to help you to decide whether to have a Thanksgiving or Baptismal Service

The Baptismal service takes place at St Martins within the Sunday Morning Service or at another time

Baptismal Service

Baptism for babies and children takes place in a service often called a Christening. In this service parents thank God for his gift of life, make a decision to start their child on a journey of faith and godparents promise help and support. The church also promises to welcome the child and to pray for the family.

For your child, being baptized at a Christening marks the start of a lifelong journey of faith as part of the local and worldwide Christian family.

Please ask St Martin's Clergy for further information about the Service and arrangements

Thanksgiving for the Birth of a Child

This service is not the same as Baptism, for those parents who feel that you not be quite ready to fulfil the Baptismal promises.

The service provides an opportunity for parents and families to give thanks for birth or adoption of a child and to pray for family life.

It may be a private celebration at home or in hospital or it may be a public celebration in Church.

In the service

  • the parents receive their child as a gift from God
  • The child is named
  • The child is blessed by the priest
  • A bible story is read
  • A prayer is said for the parents and whole family

The service can be personalised for your family needs and can take place within the Sunday Morning Service, or at another time, or at your home.
